Teenie Toffees (ROUND 3)

scent of the day: Nose Rest Day

*Let’s workshop this poem about a BIPOC girl scout--Latina, perhaps mulatto (although it is never revealed)--who awakens to her entrepreneurial talents not too long after reaching double digits.

Teenie Toffees

The Girl Scout, head made for junior-high hustles bolder than badges, found humming

in her front cam that supreme cookie— a glossy box that scaled harder than scripture,

more generative than loaves or fish in the hands of Jesus— fuzzed between her thighs.

“We need books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us.”—Kafka (against the safe-space cancel culture pushed by anti-art bullies, left and right)
