Mercari (ROUND 2)

scent of the day: J-d’Orient, by Jinx

First wear. What is really cool is that J d-Orient is like J Musk 5. Both are big rose musk fragrances. J’Dorient, however, is lit up neon by big synthetics whereas J Musk stays cuddly and fuzzy rather than electrified. J Musk is more salty and feminine whereas J’Dorient is more tobaccoy and masculine—although botjh are unisex in my book. The big costus here—wet dog but with the sharpness of juniper—is another difference. Because of the strong costus element, in fact, it comes off a lot like SWR. SWR is more woody whereas this is more animalic. SWR also has much more of a focus of the highest qualities roses with a sweet greenery and glinting brightness.

*Let’s workshop this poem about adults so caught up in their own world, as they watch kids at play around pickup time at a daycare, that they fail to register what in other contexts they would pay for.

*Changed the ending olfactory description

Mercari

The dandelion riot has moms looking skeeved out along the daycare fence (chain link,

extra guilt), but their kids— twisting stalks, smudging each other’s forearms yellow—

free into the wind a time rift— bitter green nectar, ashen milk— they would buy online.

“We need books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us.”—Kafka (against the safe-space cancel culture pushed by anti-art bullies, left and right)
